Murang'a Seal head coach Osborne Monday has lamented on the poor available stadia used in Kenya's first-tier football league, even as his side beat Sofapaka 3-2 on Sunday at Varpour, Ngong, Kajiado County.
Speaking on Monday in Nairobi, Monday was unhappy with the state of infrastructure in Kenya, emphasizing that the Kenya Premier League ( KPL) is the first-tier football league and should be respected with top-quality facilities, just like what other countries are doing.
"Yes, we won, but the quality of that playing surface in Ngong was wanting. It was not level, some areas were bumpy, hence affecting the flow of the game," he retorted.
KPL's top scorer Joe Waithira netted his 13th goal of the season as early as the fourth minute, and Paul Osama added another in the 30th, to give Monday a deserving lead by the break.
"Waithera has been outstanding even in practice. This is his season, he has to make use of it because at the moment he is really helping us go forward towards our objectives," Monday praised.
Batoto Ba Mungu started a comeback fight deep into the second half to level the scores two goals apiece, but Monday brought in youngster Thadeus Kemoi who was acquired from the lower tier leagues, with five minutes to go, and the lad made use of his right foot, scoring what would be the winner that sent Murang'a to a fourth place position on the log as Sofapaka's woes continues, bottom at the tail of the table.
Sunday's win was Muranga's fourth consecutive win with just a single loss in their last 15 outings, which has now placed Monday's charges at number four on the table with 33 points, an advantage that he says will push him on Wednesday against Tusker.
"They are coming from a loss. Mathare beat them on Saturday, while we won on Sunday. My players are motivated; they are scared. All the pressure is on them, not me," a confident Monday quipped.
The lackluster Tusker now lie ninth on the log, having won only eight out of 20, the same number as they have lost, with four draws that now have accrued only 28 points for the 13-time KPL champions.
The Brewers, however, have beaten Murang’a in all of their last four games, with the reverse fixture resulting in a 1-0 victory for Tusker last October, courtesy of a 79th-minute Eric Kapaito goal, .
Monday now says that's history, and on Wednesday, let the best man carry the day.
